   An interesting job

Joe Brown有一份非常有趣的工作。

Joe Brown has a very interesting job.

他是一个警察艺术家。

He is a police artist.

一些人看到犯罪活动，然后跟Joe谈话。

Some people see crimes and then talk to Joe.

他们告诉他罪犯长什么样。

They tell him what the criminal looks like.

然后Joe画出罪犯的图片，并且警察把他放在报纸上和电视上来找他。

Then Joe draws a picture of the criminal, and the police put it in newspapers and on television to find him.

他想要画出每一位罪犯的好图片，但是，这项工作是困难的。He wants to draw a good picture of each criminal, but this job is sometimes difficult.

许多人不总是以同样的方式看事物，因此，同样的人可能描述不同，还有，他们不总是记得好。Many people don’t always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently. Also, they don’t always remember well.

“罪犯中等身材且年轻。他留着长或者直的棕色头发，长着大眼睛，”一位妇女说。“The criminal is of medium height and young. He has long straight brown hair and big eyes,” says one woman.

Birthday food around the world

    人们在生日时愿意吃什么？在不同的国家答案是不同的。

    What would people like to eat on their birthday? The answer would be different in different countries.

在许多国家，人们吃带有蜡烛的生日蛋糕。

In many countries, people have birthday cakes with candles.

蜡烛的数量是这个人的年龄。

The number of candles is the person’s age.

过生日的人要许个愿望并吹灭蜡烛。

The birthday person must make a wish and blow out the candles.

如果他或她一口气吹灭所有的蜡烛，愿望将会实现。If he or she blows out all the candles in one go, the wish will come true.

在英国，人们有时在生日蛋糕里放一块糖果。得到糖果的孩子是幸运的。

In the UK, people sometimes put a candy in a birthday cake. The child with the candy is lucky.

在中国，在生日时吃蛋糕正变得流行。

In China, it is getting popular to have cake on your birthday.

但是许多人仍吃长寿面。

But many people still eat very long noodles are symbol of long life.

他们从不切断面条，因为长面条是长寿的象征。

They never cut up the  noodles because the long noodles are a symbol of long life.

In some places, Chinese people also eat eggs on their birthday. They are a symbol of life and good luck.

They bring good luck to the birthday person.

Unit 11 How was your school trip?

Peter:嗨，Eric。上周你的郊游怎么样？

Peter: Hi, Eric. How was your trip last week?

Eric: 太好了。我在乡下看望了我的祖父母。

Eric: It was excellent. I visited my grandparents in the countryside.

We got there so fast by train.

We saw some farms and villages along the way.

在博物馆，我了解了许多关于机器人的知识。

At the museum, I learned a lot about robots.

我不知道它们能和我们一起下棋。

I didn’t know they could play chess with us.

天气是如此凉快！

It was so cool!

Then the guide taught us how to make a model robot.

I took a lot of great photos, too.

June 15th

我认为今天的学校郊游非常糟糕。I think today’s school trip was terrible.

我们乘火车去了博物馆。We took the train to the museum.

在缓慢的火车上很热。It was so hot on the slow train.

博物馆又大又无聊。The museum was big and boring.

一切都是关于机器人的，我对那方面不感兴趣。

Everything was about robots and I’m not interested in that.

房间真的很暗而且拍照很难，因此我没有拍。

The rooms were really dark and it was difficult to take photos, so I didn’t take any.

也有太多的人，并且我真的不能看到或听到导游。

There were also too many people and I couldn’t really see or hear the guide.

礼品店里的东西如此昂贵。我一点也不喜欢这次郊游。

The things in the gift shop were so expensive. I didn’t like the trip at all.

  6月15日

Unit 12 What did you do last weekend?

Paul: 嗨，Sally，你的周末过得怎么样？

Paul: Hi, Lisa. How was your weekend?

Lisa:好极了，谢谢。

Lisa: Great, thanks.

Paul: What did you do?

Lisa: I worked as a guide at the Natural History Museum.

A weekend to remember

我的姐姐两周前中学毕业了。

My sister finished high school two weeks ago.

作为一个特殊的礼物，我们的父母带我们去了印度。上个周末有趣但是可怕。

As a special gift, our parents took us to India. Last weekend was interesting but scary.

我们在印度的一个小村庄宿营。

We went camping in a small village in India.

首先，我们搭乘一辆长途公共汽车来到乡下的一个湖。

First, we took a long bus ride to a lake in the countryside.

在那里我们搭起帐篷，生火取暖并在上面煮食物。

There we put up our tents and made a fire to keep us warm and cook food on.

在第一个晚上，我们就坐在月亮下，互相讲故事。

On the first night, we just sat under the moon and told each other stories.

但是我是如此疲倦，以至于我很早就睡着了。

But I was so tired that I went to sleep early.

第二天早上，我和我的姐姐大吃一惊。

The next morning, my sister and I got terrible surprise.

当我们向我们的帐篷外看时，我们看到一条蛇正在火堆附近睡觉。

When we looked out of our tent, we saw a big snake sleeping near the fire.

我是如此的惊慌以至于不能动。

I was so scared that I couldn’t move.

我们呼喊我们的父母，以便让他们知道险情。We shouted to our parents to let them know about the danger.

我的爸爸，开始在他们的的帐篷内上下跳动。My dad started to jump up and down in their tent.

这样弄醒了蛇并且蛇移进湖附近的森林里。This woke the snake up and it moved into the forest near the lake.

我的爸爸后来告诉我蛇没有耳朵，但能感觉到东西在移动。My dad told me later that snakes don’t have ears but can feel things moving.

他还告诉我不要靠近蛇非常重要。对我来说，这是很有用的一次教训。

He also told me it was important not to go near a snake. This was a very useful lesson for me.
